Paper In 2000, 3M recovered, recycled or reused in excess of 40 million pounds of paper throughout the U.S. Paper is a very recyclable, reusable commodity. 3M Resource Recovery sells paper and paper based materials to paper mills, paper brokers and converters. 3M is able to reuse some of the silicone coated liner papers within the company. Contact Resource Recovery for additional information on paper recycling and reuse. Paper Mills The major paper producing divisions or locations at 3M sell directly to end-users. These are bid out on a regular basis. A Request for Proposal is prepared and sent to potential bidders. The completed proposals are evaluated and the offer with the "best value" to 3M is accepted. Brokers/Packers 3M also deals with brokers and/or packers for office waste, corrugated, and coated papers from production, labs, and divisions. This material may be sold on a one-shot basis or an on-going program based on the amount of material and the service rendered by the customer. A bid request describing the material is sent to potential bidders, bids are evaluated, bids are awarded for best value to 3M, and a purchase order is requested from the winning bidder. Converters/Brokers Surplus raw materials, excess inventories of paper and silicone-coated paper are sold by bid to an approved list of bidders who may be converters, users, or brokers for this type of material. A bid request describing the material is sent to potential bidders, bids are evaluated, bids are awarded for best value to 3M, and a purchase order is requested from the winning bidder. |
