3M™ Thinsulate™ Flowable Featherless Insulation is made with 85% post-consumer recycled content and is certified by the Bluesign® System, Oeko-Tex®, and The Global Recycled Standard.
The garment industry has relied on feather down and conventional plastic insulation materials for decades. That’s why 3M’s development team used our science-based innovation to develop 3M™ Thinsulate™ Flowable Featherless Insulation, a lightweight, high-loft alternative to feather down and conventional plastic insulation materials. Made from at least 85% post-consumer recycled content sourced from recycled plastic bottles, 3M™ Thinsulate™ Flowable Featherless Insulation is specially designed for easy application to manufacturing puffy apparel that may require a variety of filling machines. It’s easily shapeable, allowing the product to fill the unique quilting channels of even the most complex garments. When in the completed product, it offers a soft hand-feel and high-wash durability, meaning it maintains its superb thermal performance even after multiple laundry cycles.
3M™ Thinsulate™ Flowable Featherless Insulation is certified by the Bluesign® System, Oeko-Tex®, and The Global Recycled Standard. Bluesign® is an independent entity that awards garment manufacturers for sustainable, chemical-safe textile production. Oeko-Tex® is a joint body of international research institutes that defines the limits of sustainable textile manufacturing. 3M™ Thinsulate™ Flowable Featherless Insulation is also certified by The Global Recycled Standard, a voluntary product standard that verifies the content of recycled materials in a final product. Altogether, these certifications allow 3M™ Thinsulate™ Flowable Featherless Insulation to align with 3M’s sustainability efforts. Already, the use of 3M™ Thinsulate™ Flowable Featherless Insulation can reduce carbon emissions by 56% compared to 3M traditional padding insulation*.
This product is the newest addition to the ever-growing line of 3M™ Thinsulate™ Insulation Products made with sustainable features. According to Senior Application Engineer, Robert Polik, “At 3M, we’re focused on sustainability from the very beginning of the value chain, so our materials and manufacturing practices must be responsible to start.” With this thinking at the core of 3M™ Thinsulate™ product development, 3M is well-positioned to help outerwear brands meet the growing demands of socially conscious consumers who expect a low-impact final product that doesn’t sacrifice style, quality, or performance.
