3M values our supplier relationships and aims to recognize outstanding performance that enables 3M to be a relevant player in the marketplace and share in the Company's vision. Our Supplier of the Year (SOY) award program seeks to recognize those elite suppliers that help us succeed in accomplishing our Vision of 3M Technology Advancing Every Company, 3M Products Enhancing Every Home and 3M Innovation Improving Every Life.

Each year, 3M supplier professionals in our Global Sourcing organization will nominate exemplary suppliers to be recognized for world class performance in 6 different categories for products and/or services. Suppliers are identified and rated based on strategic spend, contract compliance, actions taken to improve 3M’s competitiveness and overall supplier performance (quality, delivery, responsiveness, cost, technology roadmaps).

In addition to awards being given to exemplary suppliers that support certain category areas (i.e. Raw Materials, Outsource Manufacturing, Services), we are also recognizing superior suppliers in these three categories:

• Sustainability: suppliers in any of the above areas that successfully collaborate with 3M to achieve notable and sustained environmental and/or social benefits for 3M and/or the supplier, related to materials provided to 3M – for more information about 3M’s sustainability initiatives, please see the Sustainability webpage.
• Diversity (Woman Owned, Veteran Owned, & Minority Owned): suppliers in any of the above areas that also meet the 3M supplier diversity criteria – for more information, see the 3M Supplier Diversity webpage.
• Innovation/Technology: suppliers that submit one or more ideas to the 3M Supplier Ideation system* which result in a successful collaboration project and/or suppliers who contribute to 3M's growth by leveraging their technologies, innovative ideas or expertise in a category space.
