The 3M EBO 16-fiber ferrules slide smoothly into alignment, letting collimated beams cross between them with no physical contact. This design allows for mating with extremely low mating force, helping enable multiple ferrules to be configured and stacked together in one connection, ideal for data centers as they scale for AI.
3M™ Expanded Beam Optical Ferrule, 16F allows for faster time to revenue with comparable signal performance vs. physical contact and conventional EBO connectors. The 3M EBO ferrule provides very low mating force so multiple ferrules can be stacked into single connectors, allowing efficient data center rollouts and the upgrade of existing facilities.
The 3M EBO ferrule delivers typical insertion loss comparable to that of physical-contact (PC) connectors, and return loss performance exceeding that of PCs (reflectance ≥55 dB single mode and ≥35 dB multimode). The parallel alignment virtually eliminates exposure to dust and drastically reduce the chance of contamination from small particles at any point during assembly or use.
The 3M EBO ferrule design, combined with extremely low mating force, can help reduce installation time from about three minutes per conventional physical contact connectors to about 30 seconds when using 3M EBO ferrules.
Installation and deployment time using 3M EBO ferrules can potentially be reduced from six months to as little as three days. Some estimates place potential savings up to $100,000 per day.*
