3M™ Acrylic Foam Tape 4257YCL is a 0.38 mm thick, gray, double-coated acrylic foam tape used in a variety of automotive applications where bonding surfaces are well matched or where the parts to be bonded are thin and flexible. 3M Acrylic Foam Tape 4257YCL is available in a variety of standard widths.

3M™ Acrylic Foam Tape 4257YCL (PDF, 1.54 Mb) has one adhesive on the liner side of the product for bonding to automotive paint and component surfaces, and a second adhesive on the non-liner side of the product for bonding to the exterior trim part. Since product performance will depend on actual conditions within a specific application, it is essential that the user evaluate the 3M product to determine whether it is fit for a particular material purpose and suitable for the user's method of application.

3M™ Acrylic Foam Tape can be used for numerous applications both on the exterior and interior of vehicles. The unique viscoelastic nature of acrylic foam gives it a high cohesive strength combined with excellent shock and weathering resistance. Generally the adhesion increases with time, resulting in a durable, high performance bond between the part and the substrate. To optimize bond strength, the surfaces must be clean, dry and smooth with good fit between part and substrate.

Full surface contact between tape and substrate is important for good adhesion performance. Contact is achieved through pressurization. Typically, roller pressure between 10-50 N/cm² is needed for optimal adhesion. It is also best to apply the tape at temperatures between 18-40 °C Acrylic foam tapes are specially designed for attaching automotive components and bonding to automotive paint systems. They have been successfully utilized for years around the globe in the automotive industry.
