3M Glass Bubbles for cementing and drilling fluids

3M Glass Bubbles HGS Series are hollow glass microspheres engineered for greater survivability under demanding downhole conditions. Designed with a high strength-to-weight ratio and repeatable manufactured specification, 3M Glass Bubbles HGS series are available in a wide range of strengths and densities for drilling, completion, workover, abandonment, and replacement fluid applications. They are used to help maintain downhole pressure control and efficiencies in drilling operations. The use of 3M Glass Bubbles can help eliminate the need for specialized equipment used in foamed or aerated systems.

  • Cementing

Low-density cements formulated with 3M glass bubbles HGS series offer the potential to reduce costs and improve performance compared to other commonly used techniques, including water-extended slurries, foamed cements or other microspheres, or more costly multi-staging.

    • Help prevent problems associated with lost circulation, such as reduced Top of Cement (TOC) and thus the need for remedial squeeze
    • Help achieve highest strength-to-weight cement designs
    • Increased yield per sack of cement
  • Drilling fluids

3M glass bubbles HGS series help achieve and maintain target densities in drilling, completion and workover fluids. These low-density drilling fluids help minimize differential sticking, lost circulation, reduced penetration rates and other problems associated with excessive overbalance conditions. Glass bubble-based fluids can be reconditioned and reused, helping you reduce costs.

    • More homogeneous and incompressible fluid properties compared to aerated systems
    • More economical and allow a greater density reduction window than synthetic oils
    • Compatible with both water-based and oil-based systems
